To be exact about it: in the desktop and mobile apps, with on-device audio turned on, the recording never leaves your machine. Your transcript, notes and summaries do sync, so you can read meetings on your phone and use Ask and memory. Turn that off too, and Pitara becomes a notebook that only you can read.

In the desktop and mobile apps, only if you want it to. Transcription runs on your device. The recording is stored in your Pitara account by default so you can play it on your phone and your laptop, and one setting stops that. Turn on “Keep audio on this device” and the file never leaves.
The browser version of Pitara does not do on-device transcription. If you record on pitara.ai in a browser, the audio is sent to AssemblyAI, our transcription provider, and it is covered by our privacy policy. On-device transcription is a feature of the desktop and mobile apps. If that matters to you, use the app.
Your transcript, notes, summaries and memory sync to your Pitara account so they are readable on your other devices, and AI features send that text to a model provider to answer questions and write summaries. Audio is separate, and you control it.
With audio kept on your device, there is nothing for us to listen to. With sync on, recordings are stored encrypted and access is limited and logged under our access controls. We do not use your recordings to train models.
If you kept audio on that device, the recordings are gone and we cannot recover them. That is the trade you made, and we would rather say so now. Your transcripts and notes are in your account and will be on your next device.
Yes. Recording laws vary by country and state, and on-device processing does not change your obligations. Pitara does not announce itself in the meeting, so telling participants is on you.
